It has been a half month since ThemeLib.com was created, not a long time, huh ?. Today, I decided to test how is my site in two popular Search Engines : Google and Yahoo.
Here is the result :
- Google: get 48 results returned with keywords http://csshook.com
- Yahoo: get 35 results returned with keywords http://csshook.com
All of the results in Google is fine. They indexed my posts, my tags, my keywords, … But there are some problems with my site in Yahoo. Yahoo indexed my wp-login page and download links !!! How did it happen, huh ? If you have knowledge on SEO (Search Engine Optimization), these results are not good, really. After examining ThemeLib.com a few minutes, I realized that I have not created a Robots.txt file yet !!! Oh man, how can I forget it?
Introduction
The robots.txt file is used to instruct search engine robots about what pages on your website should be crawled and consequently indexed. Most websites have files and folders that are not relevant for search engines (like images, download links, admin files, …) therefore creating a robots.txt file can actually improve your website indexation. How to optimize video hosted on your website:
- HTML surrounding video.
When you publish a video on a website, you will want to make certain that it is surrounded with HTML content. This way the search engines can get additional information from the surrounding page as the information contained within a video file can be limited. - Filename, title, description. These elements are not be enough to allow your video to rank well on its own but it is a necessary step and without this information, your video will definitively NOT rank well.
- Video Files Metadata Optimization
Make sure to encode the keywords into your video’s meta data. Tag videos with specific keywords, even if it means tagging each scene. - Keyword “video”.
Eric Papczun pointed out at the Search Engine Strategies conference in NY this past April, that a lot of people add the word “video” to their search query keyword phrase. As a result, make sure that you add the word “video” to your title, description, meta data, etc. - Links and Backlinks.
Just as with SEO for regular webpages, you will want to get as many backlins as possible with the relevant keywords and phrases as the anchor text for these links. Whether this is your own page, or merely a page on a video sharing site that you want to have rank, you will need backlinks. In addition, it is a good idea to crosslink to videos using keywords in anchor text. - Video sitemaps / MRSS / RSS.
In order for crawlers to easily find all of your online video content, you will want to create a sitemap, RSS, or media RSS (MRSS) file to help engines identify where to locate and index your videos. - One Video Directory.
Keeping your video content at one place off the root directory helps in providing easy access to search engine crawlers. Move all of your videos into one folder and make sure to upload all your future videos to this same folder - No to Flash Video Players.
Search engines have a hard time crawling video content inside flash players so stay away from them if you are hosting videos on your own site. Read more…

How to get Google to index your site fast.
To understand how to get indexed, we need to examine how google actually indexes sites. Let’s pretend you have a brand new site. You have built some content and you are now waiting and wondering when Google is going to notice you. Google spiders crawl through the internet looking for new things all the time. Typically, they discover sites via links that are pointing out to someone else’s site.
- In other words, let’s say that you are Site A. You have no links from any other sites.
- You happen to go to a popular forum and point a link to your site in your signature.
- Google crawls this site. This is what happens. Going from the top left of the forum, they will start to gather words and move on down. Each time they reach a link, they place this “in queue” to visit once they are finished crawling the page.
- They find your site link and will eventually follow it to your site, and crawl your page looking for more links to follow.
- And so on and so forth.
Some pages get crawled more often. This depends largely on how active the site it. In some cases, a site is crawled every minute because the site is constantly changing.. Alternatively, some sites are crawled once a month because the site doesn’t update very often. Read more…

With SEO being a buzz word of the times every body wants their website to be search engine friendly and up there in the first page rankings, but there are some errors which people are regularly making when trying to optimize their sites that are preventing them from getting the first page listings that they are striving for. The following is a list of 3 SEO don’ts when optimizing your website.
Don’t use the same page title on every page on your website. By using your different keywords in the page titles of the different pages on your site and making those pages more specific to those keywords you increase your chances of being listed on the search engines for more than one set of keywords.
Don’t forget to use your keywords within the content of the pages on your website. Be sure to use your keywords in the body text on your page but do not over use them by just sticking them in here, there and everywhere! Also, make sure that your keywords are in the ALT tags of any images that are on the page. This is another place where keywords can be used but again, be careful of the overuse of a keyword - you do not want to risk being penalised by the search engines. Read more…
